Announcing: Jeopardy

Play real Jeopardy! episodes with your friends, live and remote — buzzers, Daily Doubles, Final Jeopardy, the whole shebang.

Ah, Jeopardy. One of my college roommates was a quiz bowl champion (read: NERD) and we used to go on j-archive.com to manually read through & play old jeopardy games. I got toasted basically every time, but if there was ever a politics category and a Robert Frost category in the same game - I was dangerous.

This friend group all got old and graduated, then became doctors (yuck). So they’re all over the country, fucking up people’s insides, gaslighting them about having Celiac… wait where was I going with this…

Anyway, I always wanted to be able to play with them remotely, and now we can! Go to kaighn.com/jeopardy, make a room, choose an episode (hint: pick a college jeopardy episode unless you want to get wrecked), have people join it (from laptop, phone, etc) and then play through live jeopardy games!

The person who got the most recent question correct picks the next question, and the question (or “answer,” fuck you Trebek) will print to everyone’s screen at the same time. Buzz in first, answer the question right (or wrong and lose points), and profit! There’s daily doubles, double jeopardy, final jeopardy - the whole shebang! The music and sound effects kinda suck right now but hey, I’m just a man with limited free time. If the fuzzy answer matching fucked up, the host can manually correct the answers and scores.

Want to make your own jeopardy-style game? You can make a custom game with custom questions too. Great for birthday parties I’m told (Kaighn trivia for 50 attendees).

What are the limits? I have no fucking clue. It can host 10 people on a single game, but I haven’t tried more than that. So good luck and have fun breaking my tiny little remote server that’s out there, each holding a web socket connection to all the participants for all the rooms. Web sockets are easy, they said!

Report bugs to /dev/null and have fun!
